Ε/MCR612 Space and Culture: Interdisciplinary Approaches

This course focuses on the study of space as a component of the cultural phenomenon. Drawing on Historical Geography, Anthropology, Archaeology and Art History, Cognitive Psychology, Architecture and Geoinformatics, fundamental aspects of human spatial perception and behaviour are examined. Similarly, linguistic and cognitive representations of space are explored. In this frame various strategies used by different social groups in their interaction with their environment are also discussed. Theoretical and methodological approaches used in spatial studies are outlined, as well as techniques and digital tools for analyzing, reconstructing, interpreting and managing the spatial dimensions of the cultural environment.
